Jeep . How to Replace Spark Plugs in a Chevy Corvette

The Chevrolet company suggests that all year models of the Corvette be checked every 30,000 to 45,000 miles for spark plug damage and wear. High performance spark plugs are designed to work efficiently for up to 100,000 miles, but if the engine begins to misfire or sound sluggish, replace the spark plugs to return the engine to optimal performance.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Spark plug socket
Socket wrench and extension
Wire brush or canned air
Silicone spray, motor oil or anti-seize compound
New spark plug
Tension tester tool

Step by Step :
1
Allow the engine to cool before attempting to change spark plugs. Aluminum engines crack if a spark plug is removed while the engine is still warm.
2
Locate the spark plug wires on the sides of the engine. Depending on the engine size of the Chevy Corvette, there may be six or eight spark plug wires. There is one spark plug wire per cylinder head.
3
Grab the end (or boot) of a spark plug wire to loosen it. The boot is the cover that fits on top of the spark plug. Turn it slightly to release the lock. Pull backward to remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug. Do not remove more than one spark plug wire at a time. If a spark plug wire is placed on the wrong plug, it damages the engine.
4
Put the socket extender and socket wrench together, locking the pieces into place. Slide the socket over the spark plug and turn the wrench to loosen the spark plug. Once the threads are released from the spark plug well, gently use the socket wrench to pull the spark plug out of the well.
5
Clean the spark plug wire boot and spark plug well with the spray air or wire brush. Spray air into each piece or gently rub the well and boot.
6
Apply a couple of drops of engine oil or spray silicone to the threads for engines that are 20 years old or older. For newer engines, apply a thin coat of anti-seize compound to the threads of the spark plug.
7
Insert the new spark plug into the spark plug well and tighten it by hand. Use the socket to turn the spark plug 1/4 turn to the right. Test the tension of the spark plug with the tester tool. The package the spark plug came in will tell the specified tension the spark plug needs to work.
8
Replace the spark plug wire and turn it 180-degrees to the right and then 180-degrees to the left to lock the wire in place. Gently tug the wire by the boot to check if the locking mechanism is securely in place.
9
Repeat Steps 2 through 8 to replace the remaining spark plugs.

Jeep . How to Replace Spark Plugs in a Chevy Avalanche

All Chevy Avalanche year models are equipped with platinum-tipped spark plugs. These spark plugs are designed to work for up to 100,000 miles before replacement is needed. If an Avalanche model's engine becomes sluggish, uses more gas or misfires, check the spark plugs for damage or dirt.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Spark plug wire pullers
5/8 socket
Socket wrench with extender
Wire brush
New spark plugs
Anti-seize compound

Step by Step :
1
Pop the hood and allow the engine to cool. Do not remove a spark plug from a warm engine.
2
Locate the spark plug wires. Some Avalanche models have spark plugs running along the sides of the engine, below the engine cover. Other models have spark plugs on top of the engine.
3
Remove one wire from a spark plug. Clamp the wire puller on the boot, or tip, of the spark plug wire, turn it 180-degrees to the left and pull out. If you remove more than one wire at a time, they need to be marked. If a wire is connected to the wrong spark plug, the engine will misfire.
4
Attach the socket to the spark plug and turn it counter-clockwise to loosen the spark plug. Remove the socket and turn the plug by hand to release it from the cylinder block. Do not use a flexible extender on spark plugs.
5
Brush out the wire boot and the spark plug in the engine. Be careful because scrubbing too hard causes damage to the thread and boot.
6
Spread a thin coat of anti-seize compound over the thread of the new spark plug and insert it into the well. Turn the spark plug to the right to tighten it.
7
Tighten the spark plug 1/4 turn with the socket to set the plug.
8
Replace the spark plug wire and turn it 180-degrees to the right and to the left until you feel or hear a click. Repeat Steps 2 through 7 for each spark plug.

K—-Bral8 pF shoe — Spring Keep the following in mind for any major work your brakes may need: Don't attempt to replace shoes, linings, or wheel cylinders yourself unless you do so under the eye of an auto shop instructor. If you choose to go this route, the money you save more than pays for your tuition! The job is neither difficult nor complicated. It just needs supervision. If you'd rather have the work done for you, find a reliable brake specialist rather than taking your car to the corner garage. Try the Yellow Pages or have the mechanic at your local service station steer you to one. Call a couple of places and ask for estimates on rebuilding your brakes. Avoid the cheapest place as well as the most expensive! Chapter 22 is filled with advice on finding good service facilities and dealing with them successfully. Reassembling drum brakes After you finish inspecting your brakes, as I explained in the preceding sec tion, you're ready to replace everything. Refer to Figure 18-4 to make sure

that you get everything back in the proper order and direction. The following steps tell you how: 1. As you did with the drums, saturate the dirt on the brake backing plate with brake parts cleaner; then wipe it off with a clean, grease-free rag and throw the rag away. .Chapter 18: Being a Buddy to Your Brakes and Bearings 2 ff 1 Don't blow the dust around — it can contain asbestos and cause serious lung damage. If you'd rather not deal with it at all, just leave the grime alone. 2. Wipe the dirt off the spindle and replace the wheel hub and brake drum on the spindle. If you have a floating drum, skip Steps 4 through 8 and slide the drum back over the lug nut studs until it contacts the hub. Be gentle so that you don't unseat the grease seal. 3. If you haven't already cleaned the inside of the drum, spray it with brake cleaner and wipe it out with a grease-free rag; then wrap the rag in a plastic bag and dispose of it immediately. 4. Replace the outer wheel bearing (smaller end first) and the washer. Don't let any dirt get on these!

5. Replace the adjusting nut by screwing it on firmly and then backing it off half a turn and retightening it "finger tight." ^ ^—-^ Another way to complete this step is to back the adjusting nut off one full notch (60 degrees) and, if the notch doesn't line up with the hole in the spindle, back it off just enough until it does. Then spin the wheel by hand to be sure that it turns freely. If it doesn't, loosen the nut a bit more. 6. Insert the cotter pin into the hole in the castellated nut. The cotter pin should clear the outer grooves and go all the way through. Refer to your sketch, if you made one, to make sure that it's pointing in the right direction. 7. Bend the legs of the cotter pin back across the surface of the nut to hold it in place. 8. Replace the grease cap. 9. Follow the instructions in Chapter 1 to replace your wheel, lug nuts, and hubcap and lower the vehicle to the ground. Checking disc brakes Today, most vehicles have four-wheel disc brakes. Others have disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear wheels.
